Last year, after reviewing Nokia N95, I thought it will take the Finnish company a long time to surpass its performances. Fortunately for Nokia fans, N95 8GB, the sequel to the older N95, has been announced in a moment when the latter already conquered the mobile phones market, which did not take too long at all.

Nokia N95 8GB Black Mobile Phone design kept the same dual slide form factor, but its screen got bigger and its color changed to pure black. In terms of weight, N95 8GB got fatter, weighing 128 grams as compared with the N95, which weighs only 120 grams. The rest of the measures are the same in both cases 99 x 53 x 21 mm, but the 2.8 display of the 8GB version gives the impression that the whole handset is a little bit bigger than the standard version.

The Nokia N95 8GB is an updated version of the best selling original N95 and while it is still rather chunky there are a few serious changes to it that make it a significantly better mobile phone than its predecessor.

Packing a larger screen than the original N95, we really enjoyed viewing content on the N95 8GB, particularly watching videos and browsing the Web. The navigation keys at the bottom of the screen, although smaller, seemed easier to press too.

Nokia got rid of the somewhat pointless media menu that appears when you slide the original N95 down and you can navigate the 8GB start page normally. Overall, the interface felt snappier to use and the N95 8GB boot up time was far quicker.

At the back of the N95 8GB, the fiddly camera cover is gone. The advantage of not having a cover is that you no longer have to worry about the camera accidentally being activated in your pocket, which regularly happened on the original N95.

A minor but noteworthy feature is the N95 8GB black casing. It amazing how a change of color can bring out a phone sexy side and we think Nokia may have sold even more original N95s if it had come in black. For more details www.phoneandbeyond.com
